Nail experts say toenail health is something you should take seriously, but most of us never stop and think about it. So what should we do when our nail breaks? Until the nail bed is firm or the nail has grown back, keep the nail bed dry, clean, covered with petroleum jelly, and secured with an adhesive bandage. Every time the adhesive bandage gets wet, apply a new one. Keep an eye out for infection symptoms like swelling, pus, increased heat, redness, discomfort, or soreness.
